pATREON

I’ve been composing and performing music for most of my life, and trust me, it’s been a long time. I started out in gospel choirs, been in some awesome bands, had some great commissions, including Alvin Ailey, Ralph Nader's radio show and PBS. At this point, The Kemp Harris Group is giving me a platform to express myself as a composer and an artist, and generally have a hell of a great time making music.

I now find myself on the horns of a dilemma - an old dog learning new tricks. For years folks asked me besides attending shows, what is the best way to support my music and the artistic path I’m on. So finally, I have an answer to that question, which brings me to Patreon.

Patreon is a company set up by artists, to help artists. It's a direct way for you - my friends and fans - to support what I do and invest in my music as an independent artist. As you know, the music industry changes quickly: those CDs I used to sell have given way to streaming distribution, which means most musicians are earning very little money from their music. For most musicians, it’s tough to sustain an income stream, let alone one that can cover any expenses to keep going as an artist. This is where my Patreon campaign comes in….

I am asking you, if you want to invest in my music and support continued creativity as an artist, to join me as a Patreon member..

Here are some ideas of what I’d like to share with you through Patreon:

  • I’d like to record new song ideas and let you watch my process from beginning to end.

  • I like to record videos of me and the guys in the band playing original, as well as tasty covers.

  • I’d like to sit at a piano and just play for you.

  • I’d like to come to your house and play a private concert.

  • I’d like to invite you to some parties, recording sessions, general musical hangs.

  • I want to have guest artists, friends of mine that I’ve played with over the years. All incredible musicians on their own.

There are different tiers and you can pledge the amount that’s right for you. Oh, God, I sound like a pledge drive for NPR. But I do know that your support will give me the time and space to write, perform and continue to share my understanding of this world we live in.
